Become a Multicultural Education Program Diversity Facilitator:

We are currently recruiting a cadre of experienced diversity facilitators to deliver pre-designed workshops.   These facilitators will be a part of an educational team to serve all departments, staff organizations and student groups.

Who can be a MEP Diversity Facilitator?

We are looking for faculty, staff, and students with extensive experience in facilitating multicultural/diversity/social justice educational experiences.

What is the time commitment?

We hope to create the best team of MEP Diversity Facilitators at Cal possible.  As such we ask for a sizable time commitment up front, but the commitments decrease over time.  These commitments include completion of an application, (upon approval) engagement in a Training of Trainers during July 2012 (details below), and active participation in the team of MEP Diversity Facilitators including facilitation of workshops and attendance at meetings.  There is no term limit on being a MEP Diversity Facilitator, however if you are invited to join the team and agree to complete the Training of Trainers, we ask for at least two years of active engagement with MEP.

What is the timeline for recruiting MEP Diversity Facilitators for this year?

Our planned schedule is as follows:

  • Applications will be accepted now through Friday, June 1st
  • Decisions will be made during the week of June 11th
  • Applicants will be informed of their status by Friday, June 15th
  • Training of Trainers begins on Wednesday, July 11th.  For more details, see below.

If I cannot be involved during the upcoming Training of Trainers (July of 2012), can I apply again?

Possibly:  The MEP will likely plan on repeating this cycle during the Spring/Summer of 2013.

Expectations for Diversity Facilitators

Approval from your supervisor/manager:

Engagement with the MEP Diversity Facilitator team will require a significant time commitment during July 2012, and more a manageable time commitment after July 2012.  As such it is important that your status as an employee is in good standing and that you receive prior approval from your supervisor/manager prior to applying to be a MEP Diversity Facilitator.

Training of Trainers program (TOT):

The time commitments of the diversity facilitator team are sizeable during the month of July 2012 for a TOT program.

You must be able to attend all sessions.  The dates established for the TOT are all during the month of July 2012:

Commitments will not be as time consuming after July 2012.  However continued commitments to the diversity facilitator team will entail:

  • A commitment to ongoing training as a diversity facilitator via periodic meetings and trainings
  • Being paired with a diversity facilitation coach for ongoing support
  • Being available to facilitate at least one workshop per year.  This will include:
    • Pre-workshop preparation with co-facilitation team
    • Facilitation, evaluation and debriefing with a co-facilitation team

The above expectations have been established to create a strong foundation of MEP Diversity Facilitators in the service of improving our campus climate for diversity at Cal.  We invite you to consider the role of the MEP Diversity Facilitator as one who will assist in our work towards this goal.

We encourage you to apply to be a MEP Diversity Facilitator!  Doing so indicates that you understand and agree to the expectations communicated above.  If you have any questions, please contact Craig at calimo[at]berkeley.edu
