Juana María Rodríguez, Ph.D

Juana María Rodríguez is Associate Professor of Gender and Women’s Studies where she also directs the Designated Emphasis in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies and the LGBT Minor. An active member of the multicultural community at Berkeley, Dr. Rodriguez is a member of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs and is affiliated with the Center for Race and Gender; the Ethnic Studies Graduate Group; and the Performance Studies Graduate Group. Along with several colleagues from UC Berkeley’s School of Law, she is part of a Faculty Research Cluster in LGBTQ Equity, supported by the Haas Diversity Research Center.  In Gender and Women’s Studies she teaches a wide variety of courses related to her interests in gender, race and law; feminist and queer theory; and gender and sexuality in Latino/a popular culture and is an active contributor to the American Cultures curriculum at Berkeley. In Fall 211, she will be teaching a new American Cultures Engaged Scholarship class entitled Queer Theories / Activist Practices that will focus on LGBT activist groups working with different local and global ethnic communities.
